A pristine, uncrowded beach perfect for morning swims, long walks, and watching the sunrise over the Coral Sea. Magic at any time of day.
Hidden from view at high tide, the rockpools only reveal their magic when the water starts to fall. Well worth the walk along the beach — you'll find them just before the river mouth.
Head to the mouth of the Elliott River to catch sight of dozens of resident and migratory birds. Between September and April, Pied Oystercatchers, Beach Stone-curlews and Red-capped Plovers fly in all the way from Siberia and Alaska to rest, feed and nest on the northern sandy side of the river.
Elliott Heads is a fisherman's favourite. The river mouth and local rocks offer year-round great fishing for bream, flathead, and whiting.
Humpback whales head north from May to July and return south between August and October. They pass close to the coast on their way down to Hervey Bay — that's the time to grab a drink, head to the cliffs, and watch them play.
A short drive away is the globally significant nesting site for marine and loggerhead turtles. Turtle Encounter tours run at night from November to late March.
